A Study on the Emotional Disturbances of Diabetes on a Diabetic Clinic

Abstract
|
|
|
In an attempt to improve the nursing assessment based the needs of patients, the authors carried out the comparative study on the emotional disturbances of patients on a diabetic clinic at Chungnam National University Hospital from August 1. 1982 to October 30. 1982 by General Health Questionnaire(G. H. Q. ).
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The scores of the diabetes patients group on the G. H. Q. were significantly higher than those of the control group (p<0. 005).
2. The emotional disturbances of the diabetes patients group were significantly related with education and duration of illness (p<0. 05).
3. The emotional disturbances of the control group were significantly related with sex, age and marital state(p<0. 05).
4. The Scores on the G. H. Q. factors for somatic symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, social dysfunction and severe depression were significantly higher in the diabetes patient group than in the control group (p<0.05).
